ABOUT Youngjin Choe:

Born and raised in South Korea, Youngjin Choe is a fashion designer whose work explores the emotional and symbolic dimensions of light. Currently based in the Netherlands, he graduated from ArtEZ University of the Arts, where he developed a design language rooted in introspection, poetry, and technical precision.

Choe’s creative journey began with a deeply personal experience. During a period of psychological and emotional hardship, his father once told him, “The pain that exists in the world has various widths and depths… but light can fill that wide space. I will become your light and fill your pain.” These words became the emotional foundation of his artistic philosophy.

In his work, light is more than a visual element—it is a metaphor for hope, healing, and duality. He sees fashion as a medium that can translate intangible feelings into form, material, and movement. His collections often juxtapose softness and structure, transparency and density, exploring how contrasts coexist and create harmony.

Drawing inspiration from Korean culture and spiritual concepts, Choe approaches design with a meditative sensibility. Each garment is a dialogue between emotion and craftsmanship, revealing how beauty can emerge from vulnerability. Through thoughtful layering, fluid silhouettes, and the interplay of texture and reflection, he captures the delicate equilibrium between pain and light—the darkness that defines illumination.

Choe’s vision is to create garments that go beyond aesthetic appeal, becoming emotional extensions of the human experience. His work embodies the quiet power of empathy, resilience, and inner transformation—an ode to light as both a memory and a guide.
