ABOUT sara:

Sara Jacqueline Morandini (born in 2001, Rome) is an Italian accessories designer whose work is guided by curiosity, observation, and a deep engagement with materiality. A graduate of the Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome, she developed her skills across costume, fashion, and accessories, ultimately finding her true creative voice in the design of leather goods, footwear, and jewelry. Her approach privileges direct, hands-on experimentation, allowing her to establish an intimate dialogue with the materials she works with and to push boundaries through craft.

Morandini’s capsule collection Ombrage reflects this philosophy. Inspired by the dualities that define human existence — light and shadow, creation and chaos, instinct and consciousness — the project explores the archetypal dimensions of the individual. The collection draws attention to what is often hidden or neglected, suggesting that self-awareness emerges through acknowledging one’s inner shadows and bringing them into light.

Material experimentation plays a central role in Ombrage. New Zealand lambskin, with its raw and irregular grain, contrasts with metallic-grained calf leather and smooth hides that balance the overall composition. The integration of wood as a structural and decorative element — bamboo darkened for bag trims or beech wood carved into sculptural heels — evokes a primitive yet contemporary aesthetic. Techniques such as hand weaving and artisanal finishes reinforce the collection’s visceral quality, while a gender-fluid color palette ranging from nude to green and black adds nuance and universality.

Beyond her academic work, Morandini has gained professional experience in the accessories department of Balmain in Paris, where she continues to refine her skills and explore new design horizons. Guided by relentless curiosity and a desire for discovery, she approaches each project as an opportunity to transform raw materials into meaningful forms.

With Ombrage, Sara Jacqueline Morandini positions accessories as both object and symbol — primal, poetic, and deeply human.
