ABOUT Ping Chen:

Ping Chen is a London-based artist working across fashion, textiles, and material research. Originally from South China and trained at Goldsmiths, University of London, his practice explores the relationship between the body, identity, memory, and material culture.

For Ping, clothing is more than something worn: it is a physical and cultural space where identities are shaped, negotiated, and remembered. Through experimental garment construction and textile processes, he explores themes of cultural heritage, masculinity, and embodied memory, often questioning the social and gendered conventions attached to the body and the way it is perceived.

His work has been exhibited in London, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, and presented at Shenzhen Fashion Week. In 2025, he received the Christine Risley Award, while his project Thing in Itself was presented as a solo exhibition at Constance Howard Gallery during London Textile Month, curated by Selvedge Magazine. The project was also shown during the London Design Festival and received a Bronze Prize at the International Design Award 2025.

Moving between fashion, art, and textiles, Ping creates garments that sit somewhere between clothing and object, using material and construction as tools to reflect on personal histories and wider cultural narratives.
