ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Maarten Van Mulken is a fashion designer and label based in the Netherlands. The main focus of the label is on womenswear collections, but there are many side projects variating from menswear, performance and objects.
The created collections are based on concepts that are meant to disrupt normal life, referring to different fields within art and combining them with social issues nowadays. The style can be described as dark, twisted and vibrant.
Next to the label he is working for a theater company in Antwerp called Troubleyn, where he is the clothing designer for several theater productions.
With 'Violent Transgressions' I want to break and shift existing boundaries people have in this society. We became a docile audience that reacts, judges and comments on today's social and environmental issues as long as it's from our comfortable position. I want to show that change is inevitable, but at the same time that some changes can only take place if we take action.
This resulted in a collection of things that need change (pollution, plastic soup, etc), things that can't be changed (nature events, life taking over) and things that are already on the verge of changing (active participation).
The collection poses a lot of statements and should raise a lot of questions with the audience, not only towards fashion but too all the superficial boundaries we feel in our everyday life and that we should break them and create new ones together.
