ABOUT Dorka Szabó:

Dorka Szabó is a Hungarian menswear designer whose work reflects a profound dialogue between craftsmanship, time, and the human condition. A graduate of ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, her creative philosophy is rooted in discipline, integrity, and the timeless value of handcraft — principles she inherited from her upbringing in an innovative and intellectually rich environment in Budapest.

From an early age, Dorka found her joy in making — spending her childhood learning embroidery, beadwork, and painting alongside her grandmother and mother. These formative experiences instilled in her a deep respect for the touch of the human hand and the quiet beauty of imperfection. Over the years, she honed her craft through rigorous artistic training, culminating in a specialization in menswear that merges traditional tailoring with conceptual design.

Her experiences at Huntsman Savile Row in London and LR3 Louis Rubi in Paris refined her understanding of bespoke craftsmanship and the subtle power of precision. These encounters shaped her vision of menswear as both an art form and a philosophy — one that balances structure with emotion, and discipline with vulnerability.

Her graduate collection, “CHRONOMETRY [TIME UNHALTED]”, embodies her fascination with the passage of time and the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. Through natural dyeing, fabric aging, and golden mending inspired by Kintsugi, she captures the poetry of imperfection and the quiet dignity of wear. Each garment bears the marks of labor, memory, and transformation — an homage to the cyclical nature of existence.

For Dorka, design is not about perfection, but about truth. Her work celebrates scars, cracks, and the traces of life as symbols of authenticity and endurance. Guided by a deep respect for craftsmanship and the ephemeral beauty of time, she creates garments that stand as modern relics — timeless, contemplative, and profoundly human.
