ABOUT CANDICE TIANYU  :

Born in China and raised in Japan, Candice Tianyu brings together precision, discipline, and emotion through fashion. Before beginning her artistic journey, she spent ten years as a professional table tennis athlete, training with the Chinese National Team. The rigorous rhythm of athletic life and her encounters with diverse cultures around the world deeply shaped her perspective—instilling in her a sensitivity to movement, rhythm, and the expressive potential of the human body.

In 2018, Candice transitioned from athlete to artist, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with a focus on menswear from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her debut collection was featured on Vogue Runway and nominated for the Art Threads Global Design Graduation Show 2022 in collaboration with Gucci. That same year, she represented the Academy of Art University at the prestigious Supima Design Competition and later showcased her first collection at New York Fashion Week. In 2025, she completed her Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at Parsons Paris, further refining her approach to conceptual design and craftsmanship.

Her latest collection, Elysian Echoes: Heartstrings in Verse, explores the intersection between modern dance and fashion. Drawing inspiration from the legendary choreographer Martha Graham, Candice translates the language of movement into fabric—where garments breathe, twist, and flow like choreography itself. The use of circle skirts and stretch jersey recalls Graham’s iconic performances, while the interplay of leather and silk reveals both tension and grace.

Through a palette of black, burgundy, grey, and violet, Candice captures the emotional pulse of dance—the duality of strength and vulnerability, aggression and softness. Her work blurs the line between fashion and performance, between form and feeling.

For Candice, clothing is a moving sculpture—a vessel of expression where emotion, motion, and design converge. Her creative practice continues to evolve as a dialogue between cultures, disciplines, and the art of human expression.
