ABOUT ALEXIA :
Alexia Popa is a Romanian fashion designer and graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Her work is guided by a deep interest in memory, heritage, and the power of storytelling through materiality. In her graduate collection, Faded Reveries, she explores how garments can preserve cultural identity and act as vessels of remembrance in an era increasingly defined by globalization and digital sameness.
Faded Reveries is rooted in the nostalgic atmosphere of Romanian homes—spaces filled with lace curtains, family photographs, glass figurines, and warm blankets. These fragments of the past are reimagined through contemporary processes, giving rise to layered knits, silicone lace, delicate embroidery, and fragmented silhouettes. The resulting garments echo the dual nature of memory: at once vivid and fragile, defined yet blurred.
Beyond aesthetics, Popa’s approach is anchored in the principles of slow fashion. By honoring artisanal techniques, prioritizing ethical production, and focusing on emotional longevity, her designs resist the homogenization of fast-paced fashion systems. Each garment is conceived not only as clothing but as an object of meaning—capable of carrying stories across time.
While rooted in her Romanian background, Popa’s collection resonates on a universal level. It speaks to the human longing for connection, identity, and continuity, reminding us that our histories—whether collective or personal—remain inextricably linked to who we are. Her imagined wearer is cultured, independent, and intellectually curious: a woman who values craftsmanship and invests in pieces that embody both artistry and authenticity.
Through Faded Reveries, Alexia Popa proposes a fashion language that blends heritage and innovation. Her work positions memory as a creative force, showing how garments can embody narratives that preserve individuality in the face of cultural erasure. For her, fashion is not simply a surface but a medium of self-definition—a way to weave stories into forms that endure
