ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Brazilian-born, London-based fashion designer Alessandra Tacla graduated from Istituto Marangoni London in 2017 and has just finished her Master's degree in Fashion Design Womenswear, also at Marangoni.
Her BA graduate collection was chosen as one of the university's ten best of 2017, and she based her postgraduate studies on the subversion of lace: the use of lace as a medium for feminist protest.

Her MA final collection focuses on the language of femininity: the designer subverts male-associated elements of clothing (e.g. plaid patterns, pinstripes, suits, briefcases) through the use of elements associated to femininity (e.g. lace and yarn).

A mind-traveller between worlds of the past and the future, Alessandra is obsessed with the cultural legacy left by the twentieth century, and her bold design work communicates with a deep interest in cult books, films and music. Her work is defined as wearable art with its own quirks, and it stands out for its exceptional attention to details and finishings, for its unusual shapes and creative manipulation of textiles and for a bold sophistication expressed by colours and materials.
