Special Award EMBROIDERY
Ana Luisa Barros is a young new brazilian fashion designer, graduated in 2014.
At the age of 24, she already showcased her final-year collection at Casa dos Criadores in São Paulo, as one of the 6 finalists of the renowned Brazilians To Be contest, known for presenting the fashion talents of Brazil.
While studying for her graduation, she also attended classes at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion, focusing on haute couture creation and fashion business and management, which lead her to build her brand, Ana Barros.
Being from a country with so many different cultures living together, she brings this diversity to her clothes with textures, mixing and blending different fabrics into an unique look, a modern and detailed embroidery and shapes that can go from the Romantic Era to Contemporary.
This diversity shines a new light on Brazilian fashion, translating different references into a fresh view of what Brazil`s fashion is capable of.
Her creative process isn`t quite linear. Most of the times, she first looks for a fabric that carries a story in itself, that can not only inspire her but also help her bring life to the narrative behind the collection.
That`s her starting point: the fabric choice is the most important part of her creation – it`s what will unweave into all the other ideas, patterns, shapes, colors, fitting, everything.
From there on, her work flows through watercolor drawings, fine details and leather pieces, creating high fashion that is both traditional and modern, at the same time.
