ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Jun is a fashion designer, who has a unique background and currently studies MA in fashion design womenswear at Istituto Marangoni London. Jun was born in a family who run kimono wholesale company in Kyoto, Japan, and worked in the Japanese kimono industry. He worked with many artisans and learned traditional techniques there.

Jun then studied fashion design at Osaka Mode Gakuen College of Fashion & Design, where he developed professional standard skill set from drawing, pattern making, and sewing. After the graduation, he moved to Tokyo, and worked with many fashion designers. He dealt with vast areas from designing, fabric sourcing, and the production. Jun worked with Indian, Vietnamese factories and weavers who offer hand-woven textiles including antique fabrics and handiwork such as hand embroidery. He also worked closely with Japanese and Chinese factories. Those experiences enabled Jun to obtain hands-on knowledge of both hand and machine made manufacturing processes.

With all those experiences and skill set, Jun decided to move to London to develop his creativity more. He is especially interested in the design development process and now researches a way of introducing Japanese traditional techniques to the fashion industry.
